Pay close attention to spaces where you notice unsteadiness, there has already been a fall, or has nearly been a fall:

FALL RECOVERY

  • Stay calm and go slow.
  • Check for injuries. Use a pillow or blanket for comfort if needed.
  • If there are injuries, especially in the head, neck, back, or hips, call 911.
  • If you are not badly hurt, identify a sturdy chair or seat nearby.
  • Move slowly into a side-lying, then side sitting position. Then scoot or crawl on hands/knees to the seat.
  • From a kneeling position, lift your hips just high enough to slide into the chair. Rest. Plan to be in touch with your physician.
Avoid immediately standing up all the way. If you are helping another person, avoid pulling on arms or shoulders to help them up.
